During the past month I have been attending an event on Wednesday nights in Bakersfield called Happy Hour! Probably the first thing that pops into one reading this is that I have been frequenting a bar and am completely off track. Well that is not the case.
I have found myself in Bakersfield once a week attending the Wednesday night service at Crossroads. Mainly I started going to build relationships with the people who we are training for the Neighborhood transformation program but I have found myself really enjoying worshiping with them and praying with them. This church decided to do something different and that was to change the way they had been doing things in the past and try something new. Happy hour is a result of that change. The main focus now is almost one hour of worship music and prayer at the altar. The teaching time has been cut down to about 20 to 30 min. The offering trays are placed down by the altar and you can give when you feel led to. The amazing thing is as an outsider you can see the people change the way they worship when they can just pour out their love for Christ without being worried about getting to the next item on the agenda.
Every church I go to has its own way of doing things and I personally do not see one right way to do it. The most important thing is they believe that Jesus died on the cross for their sins and their belief in Him and their faith in Him is the only way into heaven. No matter who we are and what we have done he wants a relationship with us. None of us are any better than the person who is next to us. We all look the same in Gods eyes and we should remember to show each other the love He showed us.
